With some excellent driving in the morning with the afternoon stages featuring a more active co-driver part there were a lot of close times from the Bampton Special Stage Round.
Simon Parsons and Ian Hawes put in some excellent times in their Std class vehicle which coupled with the Hounsell brothers joining the series in Modified class mean’t the regulars were soon feeling the pressure.
Std+1 entries have increased one with Tom Salt entering the series and making his debut with Ian Moulsdale.
Despite some mechanical issues they put in some very good times and gave David Webber and Mark Walford a run for their money!
The 10 stages worked well and the weather held meaning that some had time to fix vehicles and get back out without missing a stage, while others had time for lunch!!! The groupings enabled crews to get to know each other and help out between stages as required along with maintenance and spares. Full details of how the event was run is shown on the reports page, along with reports for rounds 1 and 2. Additionally Land Rover World and TOR will have the full reports with sponsors details in their next edition. We have another 3 rounds to go, with a maximum of 4 counting towards the Series championship, the rounds generously sponsored by these well known companies, Allisport, Ashcroft Transmissions, OEC International, Goodwinch, Superpro Europe, and West Mids 4x4. The Series is being run as single day events, held in Mar, May, Jul, Sep and Oct. 3 of the events will be the traditional hunt the punch style and 3 events will be based predominantly on special stages. All sections and punches of all the events will be strictly voluntary. The last two events being held on consecutive days in Oct. For these days, one will be a punch hunt event whilst the other will be predominantly special stages, both days scored seperately. In conclusion there will be a total of 6 one-day rounds making up the Series. To be eligible to win the overall Series you need to score in a minimum of 4 rounds. If you score in more than 4 rounds only your top 4 results will be used to calculate your Series and class score. As 2008 proved (click here to read all about it) you are going to need dedication to the task and vehicle reliability to ensure success! A little bit of preparation work between events may be useful as well! We have taken on board the points from the last Series and are now giving you a good two months to sort things out between each round. Classes We will be running 3 classes:
Standard
Standard + 1
Modified
NB: The term locker includes anything other than an open differential. Aids to traction also include fiddle brakes and Traction Control systems, ‘Soft’ Lockers and winches. This is a non exclusive list. If in doubt please contact us. Calculating Scores Points will be allocated for the overall position achieved at each event for each class. These points will go towards the overall Series. The position achieved at each event will be calculated on the following basis: For punches; points will be awarded for punch collection using the Chris Watts scoring method – i.e. the fewer the teams that achieve a punch in their class the more that punch is worth in points. For Special Stages; points will be awarded for completing the objective of the SS. Those that complete the objective of the SS will also collect bonus points for their time taken. Time bonus points will be allocated as a percentage of the winning SS time. (i.e. if you take twice as long as the winning team you will only get half the total time bonus points for your time). In the event of a draw for 1st place at any stage the place and prize will go to the quickest competitor on the special stage of that round the draw occurs on. If the Series overall scores result in a draw the place and prize will go to the quickest competitor on the SS of Rd 6. Prizes & Awards Trophies will be awarded at each round for 1st place in each class to driver and codriver. Additional prizes may be offered by the company sponsoring that specific round. On completion of the Series, prizes will be awarded to the top 3 placed teams in each class. There may be further additional prizes. The running points score will be published on this website. In order to participate you must register for the Series. Registration costs £35 which includes:
