| Winch Challenge Events |
In 2010 in association with Difflock, we are very pleased to announce that we are running our much anticipated second Winch Challenge Series.
The Series will consist of 6 rounds, 4 counting towards the Series championship, the rounds generously sponsored by these well known companies, Allisport, Ashcroft Transmissions, OEC International, Goodwinch, Superpro Europe, and West Mids 4x4.
Winch Challenges are the grass routes of the company and where we started and the business grew from. We cater for all levels of competitors from complete novice through to Challenge veteran in all levels of vehicle preparation. On a typical competition day 40 punches will be used. These will range from easy drivable punches to ones that require considerable thought and skill to achieve. Although you have the day to complete the course, time becomes an important part of the planning process in order to achieve all the punches. You can also follow our competitions and ask about previous events or details for upcoming events on in the Competition and off roading forums at Innovate4x4. We generally run the unique scoring system, devised by Chris Watts a contributor to LR4x4.com forum. Each punch starts at a set value, the more vehicles that correctly achieve that punch, the less that punch is worth. This therefore means it becomes a thinking competition as well as an all out maximum effort competition. It may just be worth getting that single punch if its worth maximum points and you are the only vehicle to get it! This scoring system is worked out by class. For our special stages which can vary in number between 1 and 25 we use a scoring system that not only takes into account your punch/aim score put also proportions points for time as a % against the winners time. IE if you took twice as long as the winner you will only get half the winners time points despite the fact you may have been the 3rd quickest. This system therefore rewards those that have good times for their effort and encourages all to give it their best effort rather than just take default points. For 2008 with support from OEC International and X-Engineering (X-Eng) we ran a very successful Challenge Series which produced some outstanding results with good coverage in LRM and TOR. You can read more about the series and see the results by visiting the Series 2008 page. In 2009 we ran two 2 day events for J33P.ORG and BWORC, the event reports can be seen here. Not only were they excellent off roading weekends but they also have a great social element to them and the BWORC event ran as a memorial fund raising event for Teenage Cancer Trust raising over £2,000. In association with OEC International we also ran the 2nd Interclub Challenge where 5 teams battled it out for the honours of a club win against strong competition, with a day of combined punches and Special Stages plus a two night stages followed by a team Special Stage on Sunday it was a fun packed weekend not for the faint hearted! You can read the event report in the various Landrover magazines or here. If the idea of entering a winch challenge event seems daunting, we run Challenge Training Days that are designed for people who are looking to enter winch challenge events. During the day you will explore the terrain where punches are likely to be located, if found tackling them in a non-competive manner. Alternatively you might want to consider entering a Daily Driver Challenge Event. As well as running our own 4x4 Adventure Events we can be booked to run events for other organisations, both commercial and clubs. We can help with all the aspects of running both competitive and fun events, providing all the logistic planning, entries, risk assessments, and insurance, events can be single or multi day, held on either your own or one of our sites. Please contact us to discuss your requirements. Details of forthcoming winch challenge events are published on the diary page, please note to participate in a challenge event you must comply with these rules and regulations. If you have questions about the rules and regulations or just want to find out whether winch challenge events are for you please do not hesitate to contact us. We also welcome spectators unless stated otherwise, see diary page page. However we do ask that all specators follow these guidelines.
